Tre Johnson, a former Washington offensive guard, died Sunday morning during a family trip. He was 54 years old. Johnson spent the bulk of his NFL career with Washington, playing from 1994 to 2001, primarily as an offensive guard, and later spent one season with the Cleveland Browns. He also played college football at Temple and was selected in the second round of the 1994 NFL Draft, earning a Pro Bowl nod in 1999.
After hanging up his cleats, Johnson pursued education, adopting a second career as a teacher at Landon School in Bethesda, Maryland. Health challenges in recent years forced him to take a leave of absence from teaching.
Beyond the field, Johnson was connected to the local media community through News4; his wife, Irene Johnson, spent 12 years as a photographer for the station. He leaves behind Irene and their four children: Chloe, EJ, EZ, and Eden.
