A former world champion is throwing down the gauntlet to Chris Eubank Jr., daring him to step back into the ring for a fight that could reignite old rivalries, even after a four-year absence!
After a performance that left many boxing fans scratching their heads in his recent rematch against Conor Benn, Chris Eubank Jr. is still very much committed to his boxing journey. Now, a former world champion has stepped forward, boldly declaring himself Eubank's best possible opponent, despite having been out of the professional boxing scene for a considerable four years.
Eubank Jr. certainly made waves when he handed Conor Benn his first-ever professional defeat back in April. However, in their highly anticipated rematch, the now 36-year-old fighter appeared to be a mere shadow of his former dominant self. The big question on everyone's mind is whether this dip in form was due to the natural effects of aging or the significant challenges he faced in making his weight class.
It's now understood that Eubank Jr. is planning a return to the super-middleweight division this year. He's expected to compete at 168lbs, a weight he hasn't fought at since his impressive victory over James DeGale back in 2019. While he's been rumored to be in talks for a potential bout with fellow British fighter Hamzah Sheeraz, Eubank Jr. has another prominent compatriot vying for his attention.
But here's where it gets interesting... Kell Brook, the former IBF welterweight champion, has publicly expressed his strong desire to face Eubank Jr. In a recent chat with Boxing King Media, Brook made it clear that he's ready to end his own four-year retirement to make this fight happen.
"We have history, he lost his pen when he should have been in with [Gennady] Golovkin, he didn’t fancy that and I had to step in," Brook explained, referencing a past situation where he reportedly stepped in for Eubank Jr. "Me and him have been mentioned a few times but listen, I have had back and forth before but if they mean business and they want it to happen then they know exactly what my fee is, they know what I want and it can happen. I am the biggest fight out there for him."
And this is the part most people miss... Brook hasn't officially competed since his decisive victory over Amir Khan in 2022. However, he is reportedly set to make a comeback on Saturday, April 11th, stepping in for the legendary Ricky Hatton to face Eisa Al Dah in Dubai. This potential fight with Eubank Jr. would undoubtedly be a massive draw, pitting two well-known British boxers against each other.
